ABOUT BELINDA
I really like this photo of a younger me — I was 32, and it was taken by my friend Hal on a ferry bound for Maine in the mid-1990s. I was on my way to photograph the New Hampshire Highland Games for the Halifax Citadel Society. I love this image because it captures two things that have always been true about me: there’s almost always a camera around my neck, and I’m forever flipping my hair.
My journey in photography began in 1984, when my dad gifted me a Fujifilm camera. From that moment on, I was hooked. I’ve been obsessed with capturing moments ever since – some years more intensely than others – but I’ve never stopped shooting.
I’m a documentary photographer drawn to the energy and intimacy of live music. I work almost exclusively in black and white because it strips everything down, pushing the image toward abstraction and allowing the moment itself to take center stage. I love the gritty, timeless quality it brings – the feeling that the photo could be from Gus’ Pub in 2023 or CBGB’s in 1970. That’s the space I aim to live in. My goal is to create honest images that tell the full story of a show and all the band members within it.
Supporting and promoting the local music scene is a true passion of mine. Since joining Inside the Scene in 2024, I’ve photographed countless performances. (233 performances in 2025 alone!)
I’m deeply grateful to the local community for welcoming me and trusting me to document their intimate, vulnerable, and electric moments on stage.
